2016 Mens Retreat

New Covenant Church Men’s 2016 Retreat

Forged in Fire Weekend

The theme for this year’s retreat is “Forged in Fire.”  We kick-off Friday evening, September 16th, continue Saturday, September 17th, and conclude early Sunday morning, September 18th. The agenda includes studying God’s Word, worship, and fellowship with Christian brothers, as well as some free time for optional activities.

If you have ever experienced the death of a loved one, the loss of a relationship, or money troubles, it’s hard to understand how any good can ever come from those and other major difficulties in life. Yet, God’s Word tells us that we will, in fact, experience various trials that will test us, with the goal being to produce steadfastness and ultimately the perfection of our faith.  At the 2016 NCC Men’s Retreat, we will begin with the precept that all of us will experience adversity and pain at one time or another, simply because we live in a fallen world.  We’ll look at what God’s Word says about the difficulties of this life, the pressure and resulting pain used to shape us for God’s intended purposes, and how we can find joy in adversity.

The retreat will once again be at the Glorieta Conference Center, located in the Sangre de Cristo mountain range of the Southern Rockies right off I-25 in Glorieta, NM (and not far from Santa Fe). Glorieta Camp is a mountainous escape that is perfect for a retreat. For more information, see http://www.glorieta.org.

Your registration fee includes lodging for Friday and Saturday nights, a BBQ Friday night, three meals on Saturday, and a retreat T-Shirt.  Other optional, user-pay activities will be offered, depending on the level of interest.

·       Registration fees are:

o   $99* per person for the Cabin

o   $149* per person for a Hotel Room (double-occupancy; you will be paired with another guy)

o   $249* per person for a Hotel Room (single-occupancy; you will be have the room to yourself)

·      Scholarships available – Register below or call/email/see Steve Stucker or Bill Jackson.

·      The retreat is open to NCC Men and Friends – everyone is welcome.

Nambe Lake Hike

Nambe Lake Hike.  Saturday August 27th, 9:30 AM at the trailhead (see directions below).  We are amping it up and hiking to Nambe Lake, which is the nearest alpine lake to Santa Fe.  You’ll need to be in better than average shape to reach the lake, which is at an elevation of over 11,300 feet.  Pack in a picnic lunch to enjoy at the lake and bring plenty of water. The consistently strenuous climb to the lake is 3.3 miles from the trailhead at Ski Santa Fe, but the scenery is worth it!

Directions to the trailhead:  From Santa Fe, follow NM 475 N to the Santa Fe Ski Area; park in the lower lot on the left.  The drive is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes from New Covenant Church.  For more information contact Tom Thomson (hbbear@comcast.net505-504-1559) or Dave Mead (dmead@arraytechinc.com505-967-7720).

Mars Court Hike.  Saturday July 30th, 11:00 AM at the trailhead (directions below).  We’ll be doing the Mars Court hike from Stephen Ausherman’s book 60 Hikes within 60 Miles.  This hike is easy to moderate with some strenuous but short climbs.  There are two distance options:  a 4.7 mile out-and-back route, or an 8.2 mile loop.  Plan to meet at the Mars Court Trailhead at 11 AM.  Directions:  From I-40 east, take Exit 175 south to Tijeras.  Go 8.8 miles south on NM 337.  Turn right on Raven Road and follow it 1.6 miles.  Turn right on Mars Court.  Drive about 200 feet, through the open gateway, and park along the loop before the second gate.  The drive is approximately 39 minutes from New Covenant Church.  For more information contact Tom Thomson (hbbear@comcast.net; 505-504-1559) or Dave Mead (dmead@arraytechinc.com; 505-967-7720).
